The mysterious plaque of death in Tibet

My friend and I spent two years travelling through China and spent two of months of those in Qinghai province, formerly Tibet with a tour group.

We arrived in a rural town and spent a couple of days there. On the first day, we were shopping for food at the markets and walking to see the sights, although there weren’t  many.
This was in the deep of winter in February and all the grass hills around the town was dead and brown. The overall feeling was that normal kind of bleakness that any rural place has in winter.
On the second day staying in this town, I started feeling stranger and stranger. My mind started feeling a little hazy and more I felt like I didn’t care about anything.
A part of me felt like something bad was going to happen and rapidly dwindling part of myself started to panic.
I walked with the tour group to little summit and felt emptiness. So much so that the only thing that made sense was to end my life by jumping off the summit, but something inside me tried to fight it.
Right then, my group started to walk down the hill and I followed. The further i walked the more normal I felt until we left the town that afternoon. I was totally freaked out.
My friend Hanna mentioned in an off-hand way that she felt strange and depressed while staying there, I told her I felt the same.
The group leader the mentioned that the town had been played with a rash of young women vomiting suicide.
