Caught in the Act

I was running with my dog through a nature reserve on a footpath as I normally did every day. I normally have my earphones in and listen to Rammstein very loudly. I turned a corner behind some trees and my dog suddenly pulled me in another direction, knocking me to the ground. It happened so fast that I got up from the ground, dazed and confused. As I got up to my feet  I saw a man standing behind the trees, half of his face visible and staring at me, eyes wide open. I took my earphone out of my ear and asked if he was okay while restraining my dog.

He continued staring as if I caught him doing something. I didn’t want to ask twice as I was pretty freaked out from being startled. Meanwhile, my dog kept barking and wanting to get at him, the problem was, my dog was very small and I didn’t want her to get hurt. So I picked her up and started jogging away, realizing this guy wasn’t interested in talking and I didn’t want to humiliate myself. I looked back and saw someone on the ground so I ran right back. It was an old woman on the ground.

I looked back up at the man and soon as our eyes met again, he ran away. I checked on the woman on the ground barely moving. She was bruised, her face was swollen and was in bad shape. I called 000 and asked for an ambulance.

Later, police advised that this woman was attacked and raped by the man who ran away, and I happened to show up and stop him from hurting her any further.

Nothing like this has happened around here before as far as I’m aware.

I have not heard about that old woman since.
